The “Comfy” Boot test…. When my shoes are uncomfortable, all I can think about is that! I often hear people talk about “comfort” when it comes to saddle pads and rugs, but rarely boots! If I brush my horses with bristly brushes on their legs, they tell me that they don’t like it. I couldn’t believe the long term repercussions of using boots that heated up Tia’s legs It wasn’t just the fact that she was scarred for life physically which hurt enough, the antibiotics lead to a poor gut biome balance which took years to correct. And with the weak gut biome came further issues in Tia’s general immune system and her condition suffered. We then suffered with ulcers as we juggled her health l, her gut bacteria and her mindset as a result. All because I had made a bad choice for her. Which hurt even more, as I had to reflect on myself and point the finger at myself. I didn’t investigate into the research behind the products I was buying, nor was I brave enough to question the validity of the claims. I have been brave and I’m showing you Tia’s scars that were caused by my bad choices, that Tia has carried for 90% of her life because of me. Hence why I inject my passion and drive into HUSK and making sure that these products are the best we can possibly make, to create a solution, not a marketing gimmick. They are real, they’ve come from the heart. As long as I am here I will continue to inject the drive to research, produce, and deliver the best solutions I can for horses and pony’s so they don’t have to suffer like Tia. My journey with horses is a forever one. So many people I meet in life think they know it all. My theory is that we are on a forever journey of learning, and we will never know it all. I believe our biggest life lessons come when we make mistakes, but normally that comes at the expense of another’s well being. So if we can remain open and listen to those who have already made the mistakes, hopefully we can avoid making them ourselves and others suffering as a result. My lesson was with Tia’s legs…. I lost years with Tia as a result. Time I will never get back. As a result I created HUSK to help others avoid the mistakes that I made, and give people the precious time with their horses. Part 1, as I know me chatting too much could be boring, or seen as me “banging on”, so I’m breaking it down into digestible chunks. How long does it take for tendons to over heat? Tik Tok….. We hear regularly “I have used these boots/bandages on my horses for years and they’re fine” But we forget the odd day when you horse is “off” “not feeling right”, and then back to normal. It’s like that twinge in your back that comes and goes, but you patch it up, rub it, take a little rest, and it goes. But if we persist in doing the same thing that causes that twinge, eventually it blows up into something that really makes you have to stop 🛑 for longer, if not forever. This is what happens with the horses, although the twinges we don’t listen closely enough for. And it’s the day when it gets really bad that we start to back track and think about what we could have done to cause it. Did I put bandages on too tight? Was the leg protection too heavy, too stiff? Cutting into the top of the tendon and bruising it? Heating the tendons? Not allowing the skin to breathe resulting in rashes? Was the protection ill fitting or uncomfortable causing my horses to move differently to avoid the discomfort? All these questions to stop it from happening next time, but this time it’s too late….
